Question: You were given two cans one is of 3litre capacity other with 5 litre capacity and asked to provide with 4 litres of water.(we can do anthing like pour the water away supply of water to you is unlimited)

Solution:

  1. Fill the 3-liter bottle and pour it into the empty 5-liter bottle.
  2. Fill the 3-liter bottle again, and pour enough to fill 5-liter bottle. This leaves exactly 1 liter in the 3-liter bottle.
  3. Empty the 5-liter bottle; pour the remaining 1 liter from the 3-liter bottle into the 5-liter bottle.
  4. Fill the 3-liter bottle and pour it into the 5-liter bottle. The 5-liter bottle now has exactly 4 liters.

Sum of My Daughters ages is My house Number :Nice puzzle

April 20, 2008 by Suree · 2 Comments

Recently i have attended a test for a job, where i have 38 questions with time of 100 minutes….i have solve all the questions except three…One of them is this puzzle…The question goes like this

A census taker came to a house where a man lived with three daughters.”What are your daughters’ ages?” he asks. The man replied, “The product of their ages is 72, and the sum of their ages is my house number”. “But that’s not enough information,” the census taker insisted. All right,” answered the farmer, “the oldest loves chocolate”.What are the daughters’ ages?

i have spent lot of time in this question searching for a clue but invain. After coming to home i have asked my father to solve this and he solved it easily…i was thinking that there is some clue in “the oldest loves chocolate”.what i have done is i have taken all the possible multiples of 72, i assumed something and wrote answer as 6,4,3.

but i was wrong….My father solved it as follows…

write down all the possible combination of multiples of 72

we get the following possibilities….

S.NO

Youngest

Middle

Oldest

Sum

(Houseno)

72

after that we can get a hint that the census taker said “But that’s not enough information”.With this we knew that there is more than one possibilty of sum with that house no.So we have that only if the sum is 14

so the final possibilities cut down to case 10 and case 11

10

here if we consider case no 10 we have two daugther of age 6 , but the man said that the oldest lieks chocolate, the eldest implies there is only 1 daughter older than others..

so the final possibity which satisfies all the conditions is Case 11

11

hence the answer….

that was the moment i thought my father is a genius.

Thumb represents parents
Second finger represents brothers & sisters
Center finger represents own self
Fourth finger represents your partner
Last finger represents your children
Really interesting

Why wedding ring should put on the fourth finger??
Pls follow the below step, really god made this a miracle (this is from a Chinese excerpt)

Firstly, show your palm, center finger bend and put together back to back
Secondly, the rest 4 fingers tips to tips
Games begin, follow the below arrangement, 5 finger but only 1 pair can split.

Try to open your thumb, the thumb represents parents, it can be open because all human does go thru sick and dead. Which are our parents will leave us one day
Please close up your thumb, then open your second finger, the finger represent brothers and sisters, they do have their own family which is too they will leave us too
Now close up your second finger, open up your little finger, this represent your children. Sooner or later they too will leave us for they got they own living to live
Nevertheless, close up your little finger, try to open your fourth finger which we put our wedding ring; you will be surprise to find that it cannot be open at all. Because it represent husband and wife, this whole life you will be attach to each other

Real love will stick together ever and forever. . .

Mind teasers (KEEP WATCHING OR SOLUTIONS ON 21/2/2007)

Some of these are really very good…worth reading…..

If you are good in lateral thinking, then you can be a good strategic
thinker or… be a part of Think Tank. Here is an interesting quiz to
test your Lateral Thinking abilities — Think!

1. There is a man who lives on the top floor of a very tall building.
Everyday he gets the elevator down to the ground floor to leave the
building to go to work.Upon returning from work though, he can only
travel half way up in the lift and has to walk the rest of the way
unless it’s raining! Why?

(This is probably the best known and most celebrated of all lateral
thinking puzzles. It is a true classic. Although there are many
possible solutions which fit the initial conditions, only the
canonical answer is truly satisfying. )

2. A man and his son are in a car accident. The father dies on the
scene, but the child is rushed to the hospital. When he arrives the
surgeon says,

“I can’t operate on this boy, he is my son! “
How can this be?

3. A man is wearing black. Black shoes, socks, trousers, lumper,
gloves and balaclava. He is walking down a black street with all the
street lamps off.

A black car is coming towards him with its light off but somehow
manages to stop in time. How did the driver see the man?

4. Why is it better to have round manhole covers than square ones?
This is logical rather than lateral, but it is a good puzzle that can
be solved by lateral thinking techniques. It is supposedly used by a
very well-known software company as an interview question for
prospective employees.

5. A man went to a party and drank some of the punch. He then left
early. Everyone else at the party who drank the punch subsequently
died of poisoning. Why did the man not die?

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*

6. A man walks into a bar and asks the barman for a glass of water.
The barman pulls out a gun and points it at the man. The man says
‘Thank you’ and walks out.

(This puzzle claims to be the best of the genre. It is simple in its
statement, absolutely baffling and yet with a completely satisfying
solution. Most people struggle very hard to solve this one yet they
like the answer when they hear it or have the satisfaction of figuring
it out. )
